Â
Shockers Enter the Rankings
- Wichita State found themselves in the ITA team rankings for the first time this season on Tuesday evening, as they came in as No. 47 in the nation.
- This is the first ranking the team has held since they finished the 2019 campaign at No. 56.
- Marius Frosa and Murkel Dellien also found their way back into the doubles rankings as they found themselves at No. 27.
Â
Frosa on Fire
- Senior All-American Frosa had a stellar week in both singles and doubles play to earn his first honor as American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The senior from Galati, Romania, who was recently ranked No. 107 in singles, went a combined 4-0 this week between singles and doubles. He picked up an upset victory alongside his teammate Murkel Dellien over No 10 Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo of Iowa on Sunday. He also never lost a set in singles over the course of the week, winning his two singles matches by a combined score of 24-10.
- This is the first Shocker to earn this honor in 2020, and the first player since Dellien who was tabbed with the honor last season on February 26, 2019.
Â
Shockers Lead the American…Technically
- With a 9-4 record, Wichita State has the most wins in the American Athletic Conference, but the AAC does not sponsor conference play so there are not official conference standings.
- If there were conference standings, WSU would be in second right behind ECU, who is 7-2.
Â
Hot Start
- This season, the Shockers had the best 10-match record to begin a campaign since the 2014-15 season.
- The 2014-15 Shockers went on to have a very successful 19-7 season that saw them reach the third round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
Â
