WICHITA, Kan. - Shocker softball heads to San Marcos, Texas to compete in the Bobcat Classic from Feb. 14-16 at the Bobcat Softball Stadium where they will face Saint Louis once and Texas State and UTSA twice.

Run Run Running Away
The Shockers had five straight games decided by a run rule to start off the season. This is both the most run rule games to start off a season and the most consecutive run rule games in program history. The Shockers went 3-2 in this stretch with both losses coming against No. 6 Texas.

Top of the Board
The Shockers are Top 20 in the nation in six statistics; batting average (.369), doubles per game (2), OBP (.469), scoring (8.33), slugging (.588), and walks (28).

Urban Outfitters
Freshman outfielder
Bailey Urban was outfitted with a selection to the first American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll of the season for her performance at the Texas Classic. She hit .533 and led the team in RBIs (8) and OBP (.667) at the tournament. Urban is the second Wichita State player to make the American Honor Roll in their debut as a freshman. Junior
Bailee Nickerson achieved this honor in the 2018 season after a stellar performance at the Plainsman Invite. She went on to make the All-Rookie team that season by hitting .247 with 7 home runs and 27 RBIs.

Saint Louis
The Billikens started off their season at the Black & Gold Invite in Hattiesburg, Miss., where they went 2-2 with a win and a loss to both Mississippi Valley State and Southern Miss. They had two players earn A-10 weekly honors as junior CF Kat Lane was the player of the week and freshman 2B Kayla Swiderski was the co-rookie of the week. Lane is 8-for-12 with six runs and a slugging percentage of .917 and Swiderski has a .500 OBP and she hit a walk-off single in the seventh inning to defeat Southern Miss.

This will be the 13th meeting all-time between the Longhorns and the Billikens. Wichita State leads the series 8-4.Â

The last meeting between the two programs was in 2014 at the Lady Techster Invitational. The Shockers earned a 3-0 win in that meeting.

UTSA
UTSA played at two tournaments in the opening weekend. They played four games at the Louisiana Classic and went 2-2 versus Ball State, No. 13 Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Roadrunners also faced Prairie View A&M at the Cowgirl Classic and beat them, 9-5. UTSA also has a midweek game versus Houston Baptist before heading off to the Bobcat Classic. Sophomore infielder Riley Grunberg leads the team in batting average (.417) and junior outfielder Lauren Coerver leads the team in RBIs (7).

This will be the fourth meeting between UTSA and Wichita State. The Shockers control the series 3-0.

Last Meeting with the Roadrunners
The teams last met at the UT-San Antonio Classic in 2014. The Shockers picked up a close 3-2 win that went into the tenth inning.

Texas State
Texas State competed at the 2020 NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Fla., during the opening weekend. They went 2-2 with wins over South Alabama and Louisville and close losses to No. 10 Kentucky and Auburn. They also had an exhibition game against the USA Softball Team and lost, 5-2. Freshman infielder Sara Vanderford leads the team in RBIs (7) and is tied for the lead in hits (5) while sophomore catcher Caitlyn Rogers leads the team in batting average (.500).

This will be the sixth meeting between Texas State and Wichita State. The Shockers lead the series by three wins with a 4-1 mark.

The teams met last season at the Red & White Showcase where the Shockers picked up a 3-0 win.

Up Next
The Shockers head to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to compete in the Easton Bama Bash from Feb. 21-23 at Rhoads Stadium. They will face Louisville and Penn State twice and will have a showdown against No. 9 Alabama.
