Shockers Split Pair of Matches in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Wichita State men's tennis team split a pair of matches in the Razorback Invite Saturday, falling 4-3 to Middle Tennessee and defeating Arkansas 4-3.

The Shockers will play their final match of the invite tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. against the Drake Bulldogs.

The Shockers started strong against the Blue Raiders claiming the doubles point. All-American doubles pair Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa claimed their first win of the season defeating Stijn Slump and Pavel Motl, 6-4, while Benjamin Niv picked up his first collegiate doubles win alongside his partner Stefan Latinovic as they claimed victory over Chris Edge and Tom Moonen, 6-4.

Frosa continued his hot streak in singles as he won a match against Max Rauch, 4-6, 6-2, 6-5. Orel Ovil also picked up a victory over Slump, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Coming into today, the Razorbacks led the all-time series 18-2 with the last Wichita State win coming in 1987 when they won 5-4. This is only the third time since 1988 that the Shockers have defeated a team out of the SEC.

Shocker doubles teams continued their winning ways against Arkansas as Dellien and Frosa won their second match of day against Enrique Paya and Maxim Verboven, 6-4. Niv and Latinovic also picked up another doubles win over Alex Reco and Nico Rousset, 7-5.

It was a battle to the end in singles that ended up coming down to Elio Lago who won a match against Jose D. Alonso in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5. Frosa and Latinovic also came out victorious in singles defeating Rousset, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, and Melvin Manuel, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, respectively.
