Shockers Wrap Up at Creighton Invitational

OMAHA, Neb. – The Wichita State men's tennis team fought hard to come away with a first-place finish in doubles, and have everyone place in the top-four in their singles flights this past weekend at the Creighton Invitational, in Omaha, Neb.

Murkel Dellien and Rafael Serra defeated duos from Creighton University, 7-5, Doane University, 6-0, and the University of Nebraska Omaha, 6-0, to finish undefeated and win doubles flight B, while Elio Lago and Bruno Serra secured a win over Creighton, 6-3, in doubles flight A.

In singles, Dellien battled through singles flight A, defeating players from Omaha, 6-0, 6-2, and the University of North Dakota, 6-4, 6-2, before falling to Abdoul Outtara of Omaha, 5-7, 6-3, 10-8, to claim second place. R. Serra matched Dellien's runner-up finish claiming victories over athletes from Doane, 6-0, 6-2, and Creighton, 6-3, 4-3, inj., ret., in singles flight C.

Lago fought his way to a third-place finish in flight A beating opponents from Creighton, 6-4, 3-6, 10-3, and North Dakota, 6-4, 4-1, ret.

B. Serra claimed a victory over Armando Gandini of Creighton, 0-6, 6-1, 10-5, and finished fourth in singles flight B.

The Shockers will be back in action starting Saturday, October 5, at the ITA All-American Championships, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
