Wichita State men's golf coach Judd Easterling's fall schedule, released today, includes a pair of new tour stops.
 
The Shockers join the field for the first time at the David Toms Intercollegiate (Oct. 5-6 in Shreveport, La.) and wrap up the first-half slate in the inaugural Intercollegiate at Innesbrook (Oct. 28-29 in Palm Harbor, Fla.).
 
The latter gives WSU an early peek at Copperhead Course – site of next April's American Athletic Conference Championship.
 
"This is a big event for us," Easterling said. "Not only is it a chance to tune-up for the conference championship, but Innisbrook is just a great test of golf, in general. It's the same course where the PGA Tour plays for the Valspar Championship, and it will really challenge our guys."
 
The David Toms is another early-season test against five-time national champion LSU at Shreveport's Southern Trace Country Club. The hosts have won the event in eight of its 10 years of existence.
 
"Southern Trace is another great challenge for our guys," Easterling said. "It's a beautiful course and there will be some outstanding teams in the field."
 
Three other fall events are old standbys.
 
The Shockers open their season and will look to defend a pair of 2018 titles at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, Sept. 9-10 in Huntington, W.Va. They won last year's team trophy by six strokes with rising junior Zac Owens also finishing atop the individual leaderboard. 
 
In addition, WSU will play for the eighth-consecutive year at Colorado State's Ram Masters Invitational (Sept. 16-17).
 
A ninth-straight appearance at New Mexico State's Herb Wimberly Invitational (Oct. 14-15) brings back fond memories for Easterling.
 
"It's always fun to get back to Las Cruces. It's a special place," Easterling said. "We played in this event when I was a player here, and it's the same golf course where Coach (Grier) Jones won the 1969 NCAA Championship when he was at Oklahoma State."
