SECAUCUS, N.J. – Three Wichita State University baseball student-athletes were drafted on the final day of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft Wednesday, June 5.

Clayton McGinness, a senior right-handed pitcher from Amazonia, Mo., was selected in the 20th round by the Baltimore Orioles;
Alex Segal, a redshirt sophomore left-handed pitcher from Scottsdale, Ariz., was taken in the 22nd round by the Atlanta Braves, and
Mitchell Walters, a junior right-handed pitcher from Katy, Texas, was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 35th round.

McGinness went 6-4 and posted a team-best 3.89 ERA in 18 appearances and 10 starts on the mound in 2019. He tossed one complete game while allowing 32 earned runs on 77 hits with 57 strikeouts and 27 walks in 74 innings of work. His complete game occurred in the Shockers' 3-1 victory over the then No. 8-ranked ECU Pirates. McGinness ended his Wichita State career ranked seventh in career pitching appearances with 95.

Segal tallied two saves in a team-high 31 appearances out of the bullpen for WSU this season. In 36 innings pitched, he allowed 22 earned runs on 26 hits with 47 strikeouts and 29 walks.

Walters compiled a team-high eight saves in 26 appearances on the rubber for Wichita State in 2019. He allowed only 16 earned runs on 34 hits with 44 strikeouts and 16 walks in 34 2/3 innings.

One WSU signee was also drafted, as Jake Hamilton out of Rose State College was drafted in the 21st round by the Texas Rangers.
