WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State men's tennis coach
Danny Bryan announced the signing of student-athlete Elio Lago Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Lago joins Alex Richards, Zach Grueber and Rafael and Bruno Serra who signed in the fall to make up the Shockers' five-man signing class.
Â
A native of Fortaleza, Brazil, Lago comes to Wichita State after spending the last three seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Â
Lago, who earned second-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2018, compiled 39 singles wins over a three-year span and finished the 2017-18 season with 24 overall singles wins for the Ragin' Cajuns. Lago finished the 2018-19 season with a 12-5 dual match record in doubles play, helping the Ragin' Cajuns to a 21-10 dual match record.
Â
The 6-foot-4 righthander was rated as one of the top Brazilian juniors before attending Louisiana at Lafayette, earning a national pro ranking of 61. Lago was a two-time Northeast champion in Brazil and was No. 1 in both 14 and 16-and-under groups in Rio de Janeiro.

HEAD COACH DANNY BRYAN ON ELIO LAGO
Â
"We are excited about Elio joining our team next year. Elio has already proven in college that on a given day he can play at a very high level. Our goal is to help him sustain that level day in and out. If we can accomplish that, the sky is the limit."
