New Wichita State men's golf coach
Judd Easterling talks about his first days on the job, learning from coach
Grier Jones, his vision for the program and golfing with a famous Arizona State Sun Devil.
Â
On which new directions for the program as head coach:
Â
"The two things I'm going to work on moving forward is: I'm going to recruit as hard as I can and get the best kids here to Wichita State. And I'm going to try to make these kids mentally tougher every day."
Â
On his experience at Wichita State and in Wichita to help the transition:
Â
"I moved back three years ago and I absolutely love the city, the people here, the golf course, the support this town has for the men's golf program and for Wichita State athletics as a whole is just unmatched. I'm really, really looking forward to keep working with everybody."
Â
On playing for Grier Jones:
Â
"He's brutally honest, 100 percent of the time, and he's never wavered from doing things the right way. He's never wavered from being the guy he is, and that's probably why he's had so much success on the (PGA) Tour and being a head men's golf coach.
Â
What's the best course you played?
Â
"I played the (2005) U.S. Amateur Championship at Merion (Golf Club) in Philadelphia and that's probably easily No. 1. Just a cool golf course. They've hosted major championships. It's the course that has the wicker basket on top of the flags, so there's no flag, it's just a wicker basket. Really, really fun."
