Shockers Fall to Sooners in Hard-Fought Battle

WICHITA, Kan – The Wichita State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle to NO. 31 Oklahoma, 4-3, Saturday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.

The Shockers (11-9) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the match at three, before falling to the Sooners.

HEAD COACH COLIN FOSTER

"It was definitely an abnormal match in the sense that five of the six singles were very fast. Kudos to Esther (Thebualt), Alexandra (Lazarova), Ting-Ya (Hsu) – they should take a lot of positives from today's result. Unfortunately, we just couldn't find one more point out there."

DOUBLES
The Sooners got on the board first in doubles action, when Camila Romero and Martina Capurro dropped Esther Thebault and Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva on court two, 6-1. No. 26-ranked Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco fell to Jasmine Aghar and Ivana Corley in the top slot (6-2) to give the Sooners the doubles point. Ting-Ya Hsu and LingWei Kong, who hold a 9-4 record in doubles, led Kianah Motosono and Oleksandra Korashvili in the third spot (5-2) before play was suspended.

Honigova took on Capurro in the second slot, dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision while Saidhujaeva fell to Romero (6-1, 6-1) in the fourth spot.

The Shockers wouldn't go away, as Alexandra Lazarova and Hsu came up with huge wins on courts five and six to tie the match at three.  Lazarova won her third match in a row and second in the five spot over Motosono, 6-2, 6-1.
