Shockers Roll Past Creighton, 6-1

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team claimed the doubles point and wins on five singles courts on its way to a 6-1 win over Creighton Friday at Genesis Health Club.

The Shockers (12-9) rattled of their second doubles victory in a row, and improved their record to 6-0 at home on the season.

DOUBLES
The Shockers grabbed doubles wins on both one and three courts to clinch the point. Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa improved to 6-0 on the season, knocking off Nick Campbell and Mac Mease in the top slot, 6-2. Austin Williams claimed his first doubles win of the season, teaming with Haru Inoue to knock off Stratton Brown and Joe Hoff on court three, 6-3. Stefan Latinovic and Orel Ovil trailed Jose Oscar Diaz and Daniel Lopez-Rey (5-4) before play was suspended.

SINGLES
Ovil dropped just his second match in his last eight meetings to Mease on court five. After Mease rolled in the first (6-0), Ovil battled in the second but came up just short (6-4) to Mease - who holds a 11-3 dual match record -  to tie the match at one.

WSU took the next five singles courts over the Bluejays. Andrea Caligiana, who competed in singles for the first time since Feb. 16, rolled over Lopez-Ray (6-1, 6-4) to give WSU the lead back at 2-1. After a close first set on court two, Inoue pulled off a 7-5, 6-1 win over Brown to put the Shockers up two, 3-1.

Dellien, who took on Campbell in the first slot, won his third match in a row in comeback fashion. The junior from Trinidad, Bolivia, rolled to a 6-2 first set win. In the second, Campbell led 5-3 before Dellien took the final four games to claim the match and clinch the win for the Shockers. Playing in a clinch-play format, the Shockers got wins on court three and four for the 6-1 win. Eddie Stoica won a super tiebreaker in place of a third set (10-0) over Oscar Diaz and Frosa claimed a three-set win (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) over Gandini at the No. 3 position.
