Late Rally Falls Short vs. No. 50 Princeton

SAN DIEGO – The Wichita State men's tennis team seen its four-match win streak come to an end Friday, falling 4-1 to No. 50 Princeton at the Aztec Tennis Center.
 
The Shockers (10-8) grabbed their lone point in the sixth flight, where Orel Ovil defeated Will Peters in straight sets. WSU will face Memphis for the second time this season tomorrow with a time and location TBD.
 
DOUBLES
The Shockers dropped the doubles point for the 12th time this season, falling in flights two and three. The Shockers lone win came in the top slot, where Murkel Dellien and Marius Frosa earned their third-straight victory – knocking off Ryan Seggerman and Payton Holden, 6-1. Bill Duo and Justin Barki of Princeton defeated Eddie Stoica and Orel Ovil (6-1) in the third flight, and Damian Rodriguez and Karl Poling followed with a 6-2 win over Stefan Latinovic and Haru Inoue to clinch the point.
 
SINGLES
The Shockers raced out to first set wins on courts one, four and six. Frosa dropped to 7-7 on the season with a 6-3, 6-1 setback to Rodriguez to push the Princeton lead to two. Poling improved to 17-0 in dual play, knocking off Dellien (6-2, 6-3) on court two.
 
Ovil pushed his record to 8-4 on the season with a win in the sixth slot. After rolling 6-2 in the first, Ovil rallied down 4-1 in the second to take the second set (7-6) and put the Shockers on the board. On court one, Inoue fell to Seggerman after winning the first set (6-4).
 
Stoica and Latinovic were in the middle of tight matches before play was suspended in the clinch-clinch tournament format. Stoica hung around with Duo in the first set, trading games throughout. The senior ran away in the tiebreaker to take the first set, and led 5-2 in the second. Latinovic, who came into the match 6-1 over his last seven, battled Davey Roberts in the fifth slot. The freshman started slow, falling 6-2 in the first set. Latinovic saved four match points trailing 5-4 to tie the match at five, eventually going unfinished knotted at six.
