MINNEAPOLIS – The Wichita State men's tennis team came up short to Western Michigan Saturday, falling 5-2 inside the Baseline Tennis Center.
 
DOUBLES
Western Michigan grabbed wins on courts one and three to take the doubles point from the Shockers. On court two, Eddie Stoica and Marius Frosa got the action started for the Shockers, defeating Lehnard Haupt and Jack Randall, 6-1. The Broncos took one in the third flight, where Andrea Caligiana and Stefan Latinovic fell to Nick Schnobel and Peter Kuszynski, 6-3. Haru Inoue and Murkel Dellien let a 5-4 lead slip away in the first flight, falling 7-5 to Jannik Opitz and Kennosuke Nouchi to give WMU the doubles point.
 
SINGLES
WSU tied the match early in singles play, where Frosa rolled over Matej Svjetlicic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Kuszynski put the Broncos up 2-1 after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Caligiana in the fifth flight.
 
Inoue, who competed in the second flight for the second-straight match, went head-to-head with Lenhard Haupt. The senior rolled in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), putting the score at two apiece.
 
The Broncos (5-5) reeled off three-straight singles wins on courts one, six and four. Dellien and Opitz split sets (6-1, 4-6) before Opitz won the third (6-2). Stoica and Austin Williams, who competed in his second dual match of the season, both won their first sets over Randall and Schnobel, respectively. Randall and Schnobel came from behind to win the final two sets in their match to gibe Western Michigan the 5-2 win.
 
The Shockers drop to 4-6 on the season, and take a week off before traveling to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth on Feb. 23 at 12:30 p.m.
