No. 25 Minnesota Storms Past Shockers

MINNEAPOLIS – The Wichita State men's team fell Friday to No. 25 Minnesota, 7-0, inside the Baseline Tennis Center.
 
Doubles
Minnesota got on the board first in doubles play, where Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin took down Murkel Dellien and Haru Inoue in the top flight, 6-2. WSU's third flight tandem, Stefan Latinovic Andrea Caligiana, led 3-2 early in the set over Stefan Milicevic and Marino Alpeza, before falling 6-4 to give Minnesota the doubles point. Eddie Stoica and Marius Frosa led Jackson Allen and Eli Ogilvy in the second slot, 4-3, before going unfinished.
 
Singles
Dellien and Frosa both collected first set wins for the Shockers in singles action. The Gophers jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a straight set win on court six, where Vlad Lobak defeated Caligiana (6-0, 6-2). Alpeza, competing in flight four, dropped Latinovic (6-4, 6-1) to give Minnesota the 3-0 lead. On court five, Stoica took on Ogilvy and saved multiple match points to force a tiebreaker after dropping the first set, 6-2. Ogilvy jumped out early in the tiebreaker, clinching the match with a 7-6(2) win.
 
The Shockers competed in the first three flights, with two matches going to a third set. Inoue, competing in the second flight for the third time, led 5-1 in a first set tiebreaker before dropping the set, 7-6 (7). Dellien took the first set from Krstanovic (6-3), who ranks No. 53 in ITA/Oracle Singles Rankings. Krstanovic rallied to take the final two sets and push the lead to 5-0. Frosa competed in flight three for WSU, where he took on Allen. After winning 6-2 in the first set, Allen stormed back to win the final two sets (6-3, 6-4). Inoue dropped the second set, 6-1, to give the Gophers the 7-0 win.
 
UP NEXT: The Shockers return to the Baseline Tennis Center tomorrow where they face off against Western Michigan (4-5) at 2 p.m.
