WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State's pitching and defense led the way on Sunday, holding Emporia State to just one hit and one run in a 5-1 victory at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State used three pitchers (
Bailey Lange,
Mckenzie Weber and
Erin McDonald) to shut down the Hornet batters.
Emporia State put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth after a double steal and throwing error.
Errors proved costly again, this time aiding the home team. Two throwing errors in the bottom of the fifth resulted in three runs to give the Shockers their first lead, 3-1.
In the bottom of the ninth, the offense found a little spark scoring two runs on a Lange single and two-base fielding error.
Wichita State wraps up fall action this week with a pair of weeknight contests beginning with Seminole State on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 5 p.m. and concluding with a Friday (Oct. 11) night tilt against Kansas at 6 p.m.
