Wichita State senior utility player Luke Ritter joins the Roundhouse podcast to talk about Saturday's scrimmage at Nebraska and which newcomers are catching his eye this fall. He discusses confronting his struggles during a difficult sophomore season and how coach Todd Butler's believe in him helped him turn in a strong junior season.
 
Ritter on the advice he would give himself as a freshman:
 
The biggest thing with my adjustment to freshman year, was the speed of the game was way faster than what I had played in high school, and the importance of defense. I always thought I could hit. When I got here, I realized I couldn't play defense. I had to find a position. I spent a lot of time taking extra groundballs and extra feeds from second. 
 
Ritter on how he is working to help younger Shockers adjust to new roles:
 
My role has changed a lot. Last year, we had seniors like Trey Vickers, Gunnar Troutwine and they were the main leaders on the team. My job is to lead these guys, teach them, show them the way of what we do.
 
Ritter on his sophomore struggles:
 
Sophomore year, I had to deal with failure. I grew as a player and how to deal with adversity and not doing well. After my sophomore season, I was not in a good spot in my baseball career. I definitely had good teammates, good coaches that helped me, my parents, too. It was tough. Tribute to Coach (Todd) Butler. He stuck with me and I got out of the early little slump I had and ended up doing well.
