Shockers to Face Loaded Field at Ram Masters Invitational

9/16/2018 12:00:00 PM

WICHITA, Kan. - Coming off a team victory at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, the Wichita State men's golf team continues its fall campaign with a trip to Fort Collins, Colo. The Shockers compete in the Ram Masters Invitational Sept.17-18, where they face six teams that qualified for NCAA Regional competition in 2018.

Fort Collins Country Club is a familiar place for the Shockers, who will be competing in the invitational for the seventh straight year. Wichita State won the event in 2012 and placed in the top five in four of the last six years. In 2016, the Shockers took third in the team standings and made the tournament record books with the fifth lowest single-round score of 276 and the fourth lowest 36-hole score in tournament history with 563 as a team.

Host school Colorado State has won its own tournament in each of the four years. In 2017, the Rams shot 17-under par as a team. The Fort Collins Country Club course is a par-70, 7,218 yards, with 12 of the holes ranging over 400 yards.

Seniors Adrien Michellod and Yannik Emmert, sophomore Zac Owens and freshmen Dawson Lewis and Brock Polhill will be in the five-player scorecard for the Shockers. Michellod is coming off his best tournament performance from the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, shooting a career-low round of 64 and his five-under par was good for a tie for third place. Owens claimed the individual tournament title in his first collegiate meet of the season, shooting eight under par. Emmert also claimed his sixth career top-10 finish after shooting four under par in 36 holes.

Next week's Ram Master's field is stacked with teams that participated in the 2018 NCAA Regional round, including tournament host Colorado State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Sam Houston State, and South Dakota State. Colorado will also be competing as individuals. A Missouri Valley Conference reunion will take place when Wichita State goes up against Illinois State. Other teams include Cal State Fullerton, Denver, Idaho, Long Beach State, Omaha, Rice, Seattle, South Dakota, Washington State, and Wyoming.

Tournament play begins Monday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CST (8 a.m. MT). Live scoring will be available at www.GolfStatResults.com
