RICHMOND, Va. – Wichita State won a thrilling 3-2 match at VCU to finish 3-0 on the first road trip of the season. The Shockers won by scores of 25-17, 15-25, 25-18, 10-25 and 15-9.
Megan Taflinger led the Shockers with 15 kills, while
Tabitha Brown had a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Jordan Roberts also added a double-double with 22 assists and 12 digs, while
Kali Eaken had 24 assists and
Giorgia Civita had 31 digs.
SET 1:
• The Shockers ran away with a 25-17 win in the first set
• VCU took a quick 3-0 lead, but WSU answered with three-straight to tie it
• With the score tied at eight, kills from
Emma Wright and
Megan Taflinger put WSU up 10-8
• A
Grace Burken kill pushed the lead to 15-12
• An
Abby Pugh kill made the score 22-16 and a Taflinger service ace gave WSU the 25-17 win
SET 2:
• The Rams ended the set on a 10-2 run to win 25-15
• VCU took an early 11-6 lead, but three Taflinger kills cut the lead to 12-9
• Pugh's kill pulled WSU within 15-13, but then VCU scored 10 of the last 12 points for the 25-15 win
SET 3:
• WSU took an early lead and went on to win the third set 25-18
• A 6-0 run put the Shockers up 13-6
• Back-to-back kills from Pugh pushed the lead to 17-9
• VCU pulled to within 18-16, but the Shockers ended the set on a 7-2 run to win 25-18
SET 4:
• The Rams ran away with a 25-10 win in the fourth set
• VCU took a quick 6-1 lead, but a
Jordan Roberts service ace pulled WSU within 8-5
• The Rams then went on a 12-0 run to push the lead to 20-5
• VCU went on to win the set 25-10
SET 5:
• The Shockers won the match with a 15-9 win in the fifth
• A Brown kill gave WSU a quick 5-3 lead and kills from Pugh and Brown and a VCU error gave the Shockers an 8-4 advantage

Emma Wright's kill put the Shockers up 11-6 and kills from Taflinger and
Alex Koon ended the match
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Aug. 31 against West Virginia in the BYU Nike Invitational in Provo, Utah.
