ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF earned a series victory with an 8-4 win over Wichita State in game three of the series.
Luke Ritter,
Trey Vickers and
Alex Jackson each had a hit for the Shockers, while Ritter had two RBI.
Starter
Liam Eddy went three innings and gave up three runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Matthew Mika's solo home run gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
UCF pushed the lead to 3-0 after a two-run home run from Rylan Thomas in the third.
Dayton Dugas reached on a fielder's choice in the fourth and stole second. With two outs,
Trey Vickers singled to left-center to drive in Dugas and cut the lead to 3-1.
Travis Young led off the fifth with a walk and moved to second on a single by
Luke Ritter. After a
Greyson Jenista fielder's choice, Young scored on
Alec Bohm's sacrifice fly to right field to pull WSU within 3-2.
The Knights answered with two runs in the fifth to push the lead to 5-2.
Pinch hitter
Alex Jackson led off the seventh with a single, moved to second on a groundout, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a groundout from Ritter to make the score 5-3.
A double, stolen base and sacrifice fly got the run back for the Knights in the bottom of the seventh and UCF added two unearned runs in the eighth for the 8-3 lead.
Ritter's sac fly in the ninth made the final score 8-4.
The Shockers are next in action on Wed., May 2 at Kansas State at 6:30 p.m.
