WICHITA, Kan. – Cincinnati scored five runs in the fourth inning to defeat Wichita State 8-2 in game one of a three-game series.
Luke Ritter and
Dayton Dugas both went 2-for-3 for the Shockers, while
Travis Young went 1-for-4 with a home run.
Starter
Codi Heuer went 3.1 innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Bearcats loaded the bases with one out in the fourth. Jordan Ramey's sacrifice fly and Shocker error gave UC a 1-0 lead. Another sacrifice fly, two-run single and RBI double pushed the lead to 5-0.
UC used a two-out double to add a run in the seventh for a 6-0 lead and scored two more in the eighth to go in front 8-0.
Travis Young's first home run of the year put the Shockers on the board in the eighth and
Alec Bohm's RBI single made the score 8-2.
The Shockers and Bearcats play game two of the series on Sat., May 5 at 2 p.m. and wrap it up on Sun., May 6 at 10:30 a.m.
