ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 30 Wichita State came back from a three-run deficit to defeat UCF 5-4 in game two of the series.
Luke Ritter went 2-for-5 with a RBI and a home run, while
Dayton Dugas went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.
Starter
Tyler Davis went six innings and gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Reliever
Adam Keller pitched a shutout eighth inning for the win and
Chandler Sanburn earned the save with a scoreless ninth.
Luke Ritter led off the game with a home run to put the Shockers up 1-0.
The Knights answered in the bottom of the first. Rylan Thomas' two-run home run put UCF up 2-1 and then a RBI fielder's choice from Max Wood and a Shocker error pushed the Knights lead to 4-1.
Trey Vickers reached on an error to lead off the second and
Dayton Dugas followed with a two-run home run to centerfield to cut the lead to 4-3.
The Shockers tied the score in the sixth. With two outs and runners on the corners,
Alex Jackson singled to left-center to drive in
Gunnar Troutwine and tie the score at four.
Hunter Gibson led off the ninth with a single and pinch runner
Jacob Katzfey stole second. Ritter's single moved Katzfey to third and he scored on a fielder's choice from
Greyson Jenista to put the Shockers up 5-4.
The Shockers and Knights wrap up the series on Sun., April 29 at 11 a.m. CT.
