ORLANDO, Fla. – UCF defeated Wichita State 9-5 in game one of the three-game series.
Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a home run, while
Hunter Gibson went 2-for-3.
Starter
Codi Heuer went 2.1 innings and gave up three runs on no hits with four walks and five strikeouts.
With one out in the first,
Luke Ritter was hit by a pitch and
Alec Bohm followed with a home run to centerfield to give the Shockers an early 2-0 lead.
UCF used two walks, a hit by pitch, a double and a passed ball to scored four runs in the third and take a 4-2 lead.
The Knights scored four more runs in the fourth on two walks, a hit by pitch, a triple and a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 8-2.
With one out in the seventh,
Greyson Jenista walked and moved to third on a single by Ritter. Jenista scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-3. A bases loaded walk for
Alex Jackson cut the lead to 8-4.
The Knights added a run in the seventh and Bohm's RBI single in the eighth made the final 9-5 score.
The Shockers and Knights play game two on Sat., April 28 at 5:30 p.m. CT and wrap up the series on Sun., April 29 at 11 a.m. CT.
