Shockers Sweep Kansas With 14-5 Win

LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 30 Wichita State powered past Kansas 14-5 Tuesday evening to sweep the season series.
 
Luke Ritter went 3-for-5 with five RBI, a double and a home run, while Travis Young went 4-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles.
 
Starter Preston Snavely went six innings and gave up two runs on eight hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
 
With one out in the second, Devin Foyle walked and moved to third on a single from Brendt Citta. Owen Taylor's sacrifice fly scored Foyle for a 1-0 KU lead.
 
The Shockers answered in the top of the third. With one out, Jordan Boyer singled through the left side and scored on a double to right-center by Travis Young to tie the score at one.
 
The Jayhawks took the lead back in the bottom of the third. Benjamin Sems led off with a double and moved to third on a bunt single from Rudy Karre. With two outs, Brett Vosik's single scored Sems to put KU up 2-1.
 
With one out in the fifth, Young singled and with two outs Ritter's home run put the Shockers up 3-2.
 
 Trey Vickers led off the sixth with a walk and Noah Croft's double moved him to third. Boyer followed with a sacrifice fly to score Vickers. Young doubled to score Croft and Greyson Jenista followed with a walk. A double steal advanced both runners and they scored on Ritter's single for a 7-2 lead.
 
With one out in the seventh, Vickers doubled and scored on Croft's single to push the lead to 8-2.
 
The Shockers erupted for six runs in the eighth including Ritter's RBI double, Troutwine's RBI single, Jackson's RBI single, Vickers' RBI single, Young's RBI single, and Jenista's RBI fielder's choice.
 
KU added two runs in the eighth for the final 14-5 score.
 
The Shockers are next in action April 27-29 at UCF.
