Shockers Outlast No. 36 Kansas State, 4-1

WICHITA, Kan. –  Wichita State outlasted No. 36 Kansas State, 4-1, Friday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.

HEAD COACH COLIN FOSTER
"We've been playing really good doubles lately, and we came out with great energy and played at a great level on all three courts. That doubles point is important in these competitive matches. In singles, we got off to a great start; we got off to some leads and closed the door really well. I thought all three girls that we still had on court maintained their composure. Sandra had chances to close it out, she kept calm and kept her wits about her. Played a great match as she's done all year. With Gabby, the score was kind of even that whole second set. Did well to just keep her wits about her and played strong, composed tennis at the finish and get a really solid and important win for this team."

DOUBLES
The Shockers got on the board first in doubles action, collecting wins on both one and two courts. Ting-Ya Hsu and Giulia Guidetti dropped Maria Linares and Anna Turco on court two, 6-2, to lead the charge for the Shockers. No. 64 Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco defeated Carolina Costamagna and Margot Decker (6-2) to clinch the win for Wichita State.

SINGLES
The Shockers stayed hot in singles play, taking wins in flights one, three and five. No. 56 ranked Bizhukova handled Decker with ease in flight one, 6-1, 6-1 to give WSU a 2-0 advantage. Kansas State answered with a win of their own on court four, where Rosanna Maffei defeated Bellucco in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Guidetti collected win number 14 on the young season, dropping Costamagna in straight sets (6-0, 6-3), to push the lead to 3-1. Porubin finished off the match for the Shockers with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Anna Turco in flight five.

Sandra Honigova and Maria Linares battled in court five, where the score was 6-3, 4-5 before going unfinished. Saidhujaeva dropped the first set to Ines Mesquita in flight six, and led 3-2 in the second.
