Shockers Blow by Iowa 5-2

WICHITA, Kan. -  No. 33 Wichita State blew by Iowa, 5-2, Friday morning at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex to move to 14-5 on the season.

HEAD COACH COLIN FOSTER

"It was a good team win. We got off to a good start with great energy in doubles play. On most courts in singles, we got off to good leads and kept our foot on the gas from start to finish. This was an important win to get some momentum going into two tough tests on the road next weekend."

DOUBLES
Wichita State grabbed the doubles point from Iowa with wins in the first and second flights. In flight two, Giulia Guidetti and Ting-Ya Hsu rallied to take the match over Zoe Douglas and Adorabol Huckelby, (6-3) after falling behind 2-0. Fatima Bizhukova and Marta Bellucco clinched the doubles point with a win in the first flight. The Shocker duo pulled away from 47th-ranked Elise van Heuvelen and Anastasia Reimchen to win 6-2 and clinch the point.

SINGLES
The Shockers dominated from the start in singles play, winning two in a row. Freshman Alexandra Lazarova put the Shockers up 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 dominant win over Adrienne Jensen, improving her record to 4-3 on the season. Guidetti moved to 12-5 with a straight-set victory (6-2, 6-0) over Reimchen in flight three.

The Hawkeyes got a match in the fourth flight, where Huckleby dropped Bellucco in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.  No. 68 Bizhukova collected her ninth win of the season, where she took down van Heulen (6-2, 6-2). WSU extended its lead when Honigova, who leads the team with 13 singles victories, took down Douglas (6-2, 6-2) to push the lead to 5-1.

Saidhujaeva battled Montana Crawford in the fifth flight. The two went back and forth, trading the first two sets. Crawford claimed the first set (7-5), while Saidhujaeva won 6-2 in the second. After falling behind 5-1 in the super tiebreaker, Saidhujaeva battled back to tie it at five. The two traded points before Crawford pulled away for a 10-7 win.
