Shockers Walk Off With 5-4 Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Gunnar Troutwine's walk-off single gave Wichita State a 5-4 win over UT Arlington in 10 innings to sweep the three-game series.

Troutwine finished 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Dayton Dugas went 4-for-5 with three runs including the game winner.

Starter Connor Lungwitz went five innings and gave up one run on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Shockers used some help from the Mavericks to get on the board in the second. With one out, Luke Ritter reached on an error and moved to second on a single from Dayton Dugas. Hunter Gibson followed with a single through the left side to score Ritter and put the Shockers up 1-0.

Ritter led off the fourth with a walk and moved to second on a Dugas single. Josh DeBacker sacrificed them both into scoring position and Gunnar Troutwine singled to centerfield to drive both of them in for a 3-0 lead.

The Mavs cut into the lead in the fifth. Aaron Funk led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on a sacrifice fly from Zac Cook to cut the Shocker lead to 3-1.

The Mavericks took the lead in the seventh. Three straight walks loaded the bases with no outs and Cook's single drove in one, RJ Williams' fielder's choice another to tie and Christian Hollie's two-out single scored the go ahead run for the 4-3 lead.

The Shockers tied it in the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Dugas singled and pinch hitter Trey Vickers singled to right-center and a Maverick error brought home Dugas to tie the score at four.

In the bottom of the 10th with one out, Ritter reached on a Maverick error. Dugas' fielder's choice put him at first with two outs and Alex Jackson's single to right field moved him to third. Troutwine's single through the right side drove in Dugas for the 5-4 win.

The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 12 when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face Missouri at 6:30 p.m.
