WICHITA, Kan.-- The Wichita State volleyball team completed their second weekend sweep in conference play after defeating Temple 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) on Sunday, Oct. 28, at Charles Koch Arena.
Junior
Alex Koon led the Shockers (11-11, 6-5 American) with 12 kills on .478 hitting and
Kora Kauling added 23 assists.
Giorgia Civita added 14 digs while
Regan Stiawalt tied her career-high with nine kills.
A 4-0 scoring run gave the Shockers an early 5-1 lead in set one, with two consecutive kills from Koon extending the lead to six points.
Kara Bown's service ace and two Temple attack errors allowed Wichita State to stretch their lead to eight, but five consecutive points from the Owls cut the deficit down to 20-16.
The Shockers finished set one with 16 kills on .333 hitting, resulting in a 25-19 win.
Wichita State picked up right where they left off in set two, scoring five of the first six points. A service ace from
Jordan Roberts and a kill from
Tabitha Brown put the Shockers ahead by six, and an attack error from Temple made it an 9-2 lead.
Two consecutive service aces from Kauling pushed the Shockers in front, 14-8, and an attack error from Temple along with a kill from Stiawalt gave Wichita State a comfortable eight-point lead.
Using five kills from Koon, the Shockers claimed the set two win, 25-21, and a 2-0 match advantage heading into the intermission.
Despite trailing early in set three, Wichita State stormed back to take the lead with a 5-0 run. A kill from
Megan Taflinger and two from Koon gave the Shockers a 19-15 lead, with a kill from
Grace Burken extending the lead to five.
Two kills from Brown finished set three off with Wichita State claiming the sweep after a 25-19 victory.
Irem Asci led Temple (5-18, 2-9 American) with 11 kills and 12 digs.
The Shockers outhit the Owls in the match, .314 to .165, and tallied six blocks to go along with four service aces.
Wichita State continues conference play at Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
