Shockers Continue Road Trip at Harvard

Wichita State men's tennis continues their five-game road trip Saturday, landing in Cambridge, Mass. for the Crimson Kick-off Invite, on the campus of Harvard University. 
 
Auburn, Utah, Wichita State and host Harvard are among the field for the Crimson Invite.
 

 On Utah:
The Shockers will open the weekend with a 10 a.m. match against Utah Saturday. The Utes and Shockers have met up four times, with WSU holding a 3-1 advantage, all in neutral matches. The two last met in in Mar. 1985, where the Shockers took down the Utes 5-4 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the Corpus Christi Team Championships. Utah starts the season 4-0, with all four coming at home. The Utes swept Montana State and Idaho State, and also had victories over Weber State and Utah State. The Utes are coming of a 17-10 record (2-5 in Pac 12) in 2016-17 and are led by juniors Dan Little and David Micevski.
 
On Auburn:
The Tigers and Shockers have a 2-2 record all-time against each other, with the last meeting dating back to Feb. 1990, where the Tigers took down WSU 5-1 in Las Vegas at the UNLV/Nevada Invite. The Auburn is off to a 3-1 record this season, with their lone loss coming to Georgia Tech. In 2016-17, Auburn finished the season 13-15 (3-9 SEC).
 
On Harvard:
The meeting would be the fifth between the two programs. Harvard is 4-1 all-time against WSU, last meeting back in Mar. 1991 at the UCI Anteater/Mariott Classic in Irvine, Calif. where the Crimson knocked off the Shockers 7-0. Harvard is 2-0 this season, with wins over SMU and UTA. The Crimson had a successful 2016-17 season, going 18-9 (6-1 IVY).
 
Shocker Notes
Spring Season
- The Shockers start the season 1-1. Their lone victory is against Buffalo, 5-2. Cornell defeated WSU 6-1.
-Co-Captain Miroslav Herzan has a 2-0 record in singles action in the sixth flight.

Fall Ball
- Junior Marius Frosa finished the fall season 8-4. He reached the main draw of ITA All-Americans and round of eight at ITA Central Regional.
- Junior Haru Inoue went 10-4 in fall season, competing in three futures events (two main draws). Inoue ranked No. 58 in fall rankings.
-Doubles tandem Miroslav Herzan and Andrea Caligiana finished fall season 5-2, including a semifinal run at ITA Central Regional (main draw).
 
New Face on the Court
-  Freshman Andrea Trapani looks record his first victory in a Shocker uniform. Trapani hails from Palermo, Italy and had a 13.22 Universal Tennis Rating coming to Wichita State. He ranked as high as #232 in ITF Junior World Rankings, with over 30 combined singles and doubles wins.

-Second-year head coach Danny Bryan leads WSU. (14-14)

National Rankings
- Shocker duo Frosa (junior) and Murkel Dellien (sophomore) rank No. 27 in ITA National Rankings. They finished the fall slate 1-1, competing in main draw of ITA All-Americans.
-Inoue began the fall slate ranked No. 58 in fall rankings. (ITA)

Captains
-Head coach Danny Bryan announced that juniors Haru Inoue and Eddie Stoica along with senior Miroslav Herzan will be captains for the 2018 season.
