DALLAS, Texas -- The Wichita State women's tennis team swept Stephen F. Austin, 7-0, in the first dual of the season at the SMU Tennis Complex Friday morning.

Wichita State (1-0) captured the doubles point with No. 23 Fatima Bizhukova /Gabriela Porubin handling Gabi Guilarte/Darinka Tiboldi in the first flight (6-1). Giulia Guidetti/Sandra Honigova took care of Kaja Ljubic/Sian Payne (6-1) in the second flight, clinching the doubles point. In the third flight, Armelle Cerdan/Vera Carvalho of Stephen F. Austin led Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva/Marta Bellucco (3-2), before going unfinished.

The Shockers got the clean sweep in singles play. Sandra Honigova, who returns to the Shocker lineup after sitting out a season ago, swept Kaja Ljubic in the fourth flight 6-0, 6-1. Senior Giulia Guidetti took down Darinka Tiboldi in the first flight (6-2, 6-0). Sophomore Fatima Bizhukova, who is coming off a strong fall season, defeated Gabi Guilarte (6-2, 7-5) in the second flight. Newcomer Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva got the nod in the third flight and came away victorious over Sian Payne (6-2, 7-5) for her first dual victory in a Shocker uniform. In the fifth flight, Marta Bellucco swept Vera Carvalho (6-0, 6-0). Freshman Alexandra Lazarova celebrated her first victory in dual play, with a tiebreaker victory over Armelle Cerdan (3-6, 6-4, 1-0.)
 
The victory moves the Shockers to 2-0 all-time against Stephen F. Austin. The win marks the fourth-straight season the Shockers have picked up a victory in the first dual of the season. The loss drops Stephen F. Austin to 0-1 on the season.
