WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State defeated No. 8 Creighton, 3-1, in the 2017 home opener Friday night in Charles Koch Arena in front of 2,857 fans. The Shockers won by scores of 25-20, 16-25, 25-19 and 25-22.
It was the second top-10 win in school history with the other coming in 2008 against No. 10 Cal Poly.
Tabitha Brown led the Shockers with 17 kills, while
Mikaela Raudsepp had 11 and
Abbie Lehman had 10.
Emily Hiebert had 42 assists and 10 digs, while
Giorgia Civita had 29 digs.
SET 1:
• Shockers won the first set 25-20 after trailing 7-3
• A kill from
Tabitha Brown evened the set at nine
• Kills from Koon and Lehman gave the Shockers the 15-13 lead at the media timeout
• Two CU errors pushed the lead to 17-13
• Brown's kill gave WSU the 25-20 win
• Brown led the Shockers with five kills

Giorgia Civita had nine digs
SET 2:
• Creighton pulled away to win the second set 25-16
• Civita recorded nine digs
• CU jumped out to a 6-1 lead
• The Bluejays used a service ace to push the lead to 18-10
• The teams traded points the rest of the way in a 25-16 CU win
SET 3:
• Shockers pulled away late for the 25-19 win
• The set went back and forth until the Shockers used a 5-0 run to take a 19-15 lead
• CU pulled within 22-19 with a kill, but the Shockers scored the final three points for the 25-19 win
• Brown had five kills and Koon had four kills in the set
SET 4:
• WSU won a back and forth set with a 25-22 win
• Shockers jumped out to an 8-4 lead
• CU came back to tie it at 10
• Two kills from Raudsepp put the Shockers up 21-18
• The Shockers reached match point at 24-21 on a block from Koon and Wright
• Brown's kill gave WSU the 25-22 win
• Brown and Raudsepp each recorded five kills, Lehman added four
