Shockers Fall to No. 19 Iowa State, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 19 Iowa State won the 2017 Shocker Volleyball Classic with a 3-0 win over Wichita State. The Cyclones won by scores of 25-21, 37-35 and 25-23.
 
Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with 19 kills, while Tabitha Brown added 13. Emily Hiebert had 48 assists and Giorgia Civita had 26 digs. Raudsepp and Civita were both named to the all-tournament team.
 
SET 1:
• Iowa State hit .455 in the first set in a 25-21 win
• The set went back and forth until a kill from Alex Koon put the Shockers up 12-10
• The Cyclones took a 15-14 lead on a Shocker error and the two teams traded points until a 3-0 run put ISU up 23-20
• ISU closed it out 25-21 with a kill
Mikaela Raudsepp had five kills in the set, while Koon and Brown each had four
 
SET 2:
• The Cyclones outlasted the Shockers 37-35 for a set two win
• ISU fought off nine set points in the win
• The Shockers took an early 13-8 lead after a kill from Raudsepp
• ISU used a 4-0 run to tie it at 18
• The two teams traded points after that with WSU reaching set point at 24-23 on a kill from Brown
• The Shockers had eight more set points, but could not capitalize
• ISU closed out the set with three-straight kills for the 37-35 win
• Raudsepp and Brown each had seven kills in the set, while Civita had 12 digs
 
SET 3:
• ISU took the match with a 25-23 win in the third set
• The Cyclones jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the set
• A 4-0 Shocker run put WSU up 11-10
• The set went back and forth until ISU used a 5-0 run to take a 19-16 lead
• The Shockers pulled within 22-21 on a Cyclone error, but ISU held on to win 25-23
• Raudsepp had seven kills in the set, while Civita added nine digs

• The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 22 when they open up American Athletic Conference play at Temple in Philadelphia, Pa.
