Haru Inoue registered singles victories, while Caligiana and Senior
Miroslav Herzan registered a doubles win on Friday during the first day of the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational and Laguna Niguel Futures Event to lead the Wichita State men's tennis team.
The doubles team of
Miroslav Herzan and
Andrea Caligiana advanced to the round of 16 with a win over Juri Reckow and Kai Breitbach of UTSA, 6-4. They will return to action Saturday morning to face Justin Bloss and Jackson Cobb of Texas Tech at 8:30 a.m.
After a first round bye, Caligiana advanced to the semifinals in flight two of the Racquet Club Collegiate Invite. He will continue action tomorrow morning at 10:45 against UTSA's Joao Ceolin.
Frosa went 1-1 on Friday, with a win over Marcus Walters of Tyler Junior College Friday afternoon 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8), while falling to Eric Rutledge of Rice, 6-1, 6-4.
Inoue, the No. 11 seed in the 128 man circuit, defeated Bradley Frye of Overland Park, Kan., in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the second round of action Saturday.
Murkel Dellien, who traveled to Laguna Niguel with Inoue, lost his opening round matchup to ITA All-American Reese Stalder of TCU, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Stoica finshed 0-2 in singles play, losing to Oscar Janglin of Rice 7-5, 6-1 and falling short to Texas' Collin Markes, the defending Racquet Club Collegiate Invite singles champion, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0(8),
Herzan went 0-2 on Friday falling to last year's Southland Freshman of the Year Josh Sheehy of ACU, 6-3, 6-4 and Utah State's Samuel Serrano 6-1, 7-5.
