TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State scored eight runs in the first three innings on the way to a 13-6 win over Wichita State in game one of a three-game series.
Trey Vickers went 3-for-5, while
Jordan Boyer went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double and
Alex Jackson went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles.
Starter
Zach Lewis went three innings and gave up eight runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts.
Greyson Jenista led off the game with a home run to left-center to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead. He was the first Shocker to hit a leadoff home run since Tyler Grimes at Kansas State on May 17, 2011.
The Sycamores answered in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Dane Giesler walked and Clay Dungan followed with a home run to put INS up 2-1.
Cody Gardner's two-run double and Giesler's RBI single increased the Sycamore lead to 5-1 in the second.
Willie Schwanke's sacrifice fly brought a run home in the third to cut the lead to 5-2, but the Sycamores used two home runs to increase the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the third.
Jenista's RBI fielder's choice in the fourth and
Jordan Boyer's two-run double in the fifth pulled the Shocks within 8-5.
Dominic Bifano's home run in the fifth pushed the Sycamore lead back to 9-5 and
Alex Jackson's RBI double pulled the Shocks back to 9-6 in the seventh.
The Sycamores added four more runs in the eighth for the final 13-6 score.
