Strength Coach Rosenboom Joins Elite Club

5/11/2017 8:00:00 AM

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Longtime Wichita State Strength and Conditioning Coach, Kerry Rosenboom has been selected as a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) and will be presented with the blue MSCC Jacket during a special Thursday evening ceremony at the Coronado Springs Convention Center near Orlando, Fla.

The MSCC title is the highest bestowed by the CSCCa, and the ceremony is regarded as the highlight of its annual conference. Less than 200 coaches currently hold the distinction.

Now in his 30th year at WSU, Rosenboom is already one of just 90 "Registered Strength & Conditioning Coaches with Emeritus," through the National Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association.

The CSCCa and NSCA are the strength & conditioning world's two most-well known organizations, and owning their highest respective titles is both rare and significant. Rosenboom will be one of approximately 15 coaches nationwide who can lay claim to both the MSCC and RSCC*E, making him one of the most-accomplished mentors in his profession.

"This is an incredible honor for Kerry," said CSCCa Executive Director, Dr. Chuck Stiggins, who will present Rosenboom's jacket during Thursday evening's ceremony. "Being named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach signifies a commitment to the student athlete, the Wichita State University Athletic Program, and the strength and conditioning profession.  We are honored to have Coach Rosenboom as a member of our association and to have him join the ranks of the Master Strength and Conditioning Coaches.  He is truly a model of an outstanding strength and conditioning professional."

Rosenboom joined the Wichita State staff in September, 1987. Over the years he's trained successful squads in numerous sports, including the 1989 National Championship baseball team and the 2011 NIT Champion men's basketball team. With Rosenboom's help, the Shocker men have continued their success, logging trips to the 2013 Final Four and 2015 Sweet 16. In between, the 2014 squad ran the table in the regular season and became the first in 23 years to enter the NCAA Tournament with an unbeaten record.

Rosenboom regularly receives requests to share his knowledge around the country, especially in the area of weight-training for baseball players. He's published numerous articles, including a series on weight training specifics for pitchers and position players that appeared in Collegiate Baseball Magazine. He also penned a chapter for the book, Peak Power for Baseball. He's twice served as a guest speaker at the American Baseball Coaches Association's National Convention. Rosenboom also spoke at the NSCA National Convention in 1993 and guest lectured at the Syd Thrift International Baseball Institute.

Over the years, Rosenboom has been offered head strength and conditioning coach positions by several MLB and NBA organizations, but has remained true to the Shockers. Still, he's made an impact at the highest levels. Through his "Weight-Training for Baseball" consulting business he has trained over 100 players that have made it to the Major Leagues. He's also trained numerous professional basketball players, including current NBA and former Wichita State Shockers players Ron Baker and Fred VanVleet.
