SIU Comes Back for 11-8 Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Southern Illinois earned a come from behind victory in an 11-8 win over Wichita State in game two of a three-game series.

Greyson Jenista went 2-for-3 with three walks, two doubles and two RBI. Dayton Dugas was 3-for-4 with two singles and three runs.

Starter Tommy Barnhouse went four innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The Shockers took an early lead in the bottom of the first. Jenista led off with a double to center field and Travis Young's bunt single moved him to third. After a one-out walk to Willie Schwanke loaded the bases, Jenista scored on a balk by SIU pitcher Michael Baird to put the Shockers up 1-0.

With one out in the second, Dayton Dugas singled to left field and with two outs he scored on a double to right field by Jenista to give the Shocks a 2-0 lead.

The Salukis cut into the lead in the fourth. With two outs, Logan Blackfan walked and Nick Hutchins singled. Will Farmer followed with an infield single and Blackfan scored on a Shocker error to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Shockers answered in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Dugas singled to left field and with two outs Jenista walked. Young followed with an infield single to load the bases and Alec Bohm doubled to right-center to clear the bases for a 5-1 Shocker lead.

Ryan Sabo and Dyllin Mucha led off the fifth with back-to-back doubles to cut the lead to 5-2 and added runs on a groundout and a sacrifice fly to pull within 5-4.
Will Farmer's RBI single tied the score at five in the sixth and Blackfan's RBI single gave SIU the 6-5 lead in the seventh.

SIU added four more in the eighth and one in the ninth. The Shockers scored three runs in the ninth for the final 11-8 score.

The Shockers and Salukis wrap up the series on Sun., April 9 at 1 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
