WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State used a five-run third inning to shut out Southern Illinois and begin conference play with a 7-0 victory.
Starter
Zach Lewis earned his second win of the year going seven innings allowing zero runs on three hits and six strikeouts.
Alec Bohm went 2-for-3 with a single and a home run along with two RBI.
Trey Vickers was 2-for-4 with a single and RBI double for the Shockers.
Wichita State put up five runs on five hits with two outs in the third to take an early 5-0 lead. With two outs,
Travis Young walked to bring up Bohm who launched his fourth home run of the year over the left field bleachers to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead. After a
Willie Schwanke single,
Alex Jackson extended his hit streak to eight with a RBI double to left-center. Vickers followed with a RBI double of his own and
Noah Croft followed with a RBI single.
The Shockers added two runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 7-0. With one out, Croft singled up the middle to get things going for Wichita State. With two outs,
Jordan Boyer hit his second home run of the season over the left-field fence to give the Shockers the 7-0 lead.
Codi Heuer pitched two scoreless innings for the Shockers to preserve the victory.
Wichita State continues conference play with Southern Illinois on Sat., April 7 at 2 p.m, at Eck Stadium.
