WICHITA, Kan. – No. 3 Texas Tech scored three runs in the first inning on the way to a 10-5 win over Wichita State.
Trey Vickers went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Jacob Katzfey went 1-for-1 with two RBI and a triple.
Starter
Chandler Sanburn went two innings and gave up four runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
The Red Raiders opened with three runs in the top of the first. After a leadoff walk and wild pitch, Tanner Gardner's one-out single drove in the first run for a 1-0 lead. Hunter Hargrove followed with a single and stolen base and Michael Berglund delivered a two-run single to push the lead to 3-0.
TTU loaded the bases with no outs in the third, but came away with just one run on a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 lead.
The Red Raiders broke it open with a six-run fifth for a 10-0 lead.
The Shockers scored an unearned run in the fifth. With one out, Vickers singled and moved to second on a Tech error.
Dayton Dugas' single moved Vickers to third and he scored on a fielder's choice by
Jordan Boyer to make the score 10-1.
The Shockers had a big inning in the eighth.
Luke Ritter led off with a double and
Greyson Jenista walked. With one out,
Gunnar Troutwine singled up the middle to score Ritter and Katzfey's pinch-hit triple scored two to cut the lead to 10-4. Vickers followed with an RBI groundout for the final 10-5 score.
The Shockers and Red Raiders play game two of the series on Sat., March 25 at 2 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
