WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State used a seven-run inning second inning to defeat Northern Colorado 11-5 in game one of a two-game series.

Luke Ritter went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Dayton Dugas went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double and Jordan Boyer went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Starter Chandler Sanburn did not allow a run or a hit in three innings and also struck out a career-high six.

The Shockers used a seven-run second inning to break the game open. With one out, WSU used a Trey Vickers RBI triple and a Ritter RBI single to take a 2-0 lead. The Shockers increased the lead to 7-0 after a Boyer two-out RBI single, Greyson Jenista two-run triple, and RBI singles from Alec Bohm and Gunnar Troutwine.

WSU added two more in the third after Ritter led off the inning with a double and scored on a triple by Alex Jackson. Boyer's sacrifice fly brought home Jackson for a 9-0 lead.

The Bears cut into the lead in the fourth. With one out, Cole Maltese walked and moved to third on a two-out double by Brett Minnick. Nick Tanner followed with a single through the right side to score Maltese and Minnick came home on a passed ball to cut the Shocker lead to 9-2.

UNC added a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Jack Pauley to make the score 9-3, but the Shockers got the run back in the seventh on a RBI single from Ritter.

The Bears used three walks and two hits to score two runs in the eighth and the Shockers scored an unearned run in the ninth for the final 11-5 score.

The Shockers and Bears wrap up the series on Wed., March 15 at 3 p.m.
