BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU left-hander Jared Poche' extended his scoreless innings streak to 29 as No. 6 LSU defeated Wichita State 12-5 in game two of a three-game series.
Noah Croft went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while
Travis Young,
Alex Jackson,
Jacob Katzfey,
Alec Bohm and
Greyson Jenista each had a hit.
Starter
Cody Tyler went five innings and gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with no walks and one strikeout.
LSU loaded the bases with nobody out in the third inning and used a sacrifice fly from Jake Slaughter and an infield single from Zach Watson to go in front 2-0.
The Tigers broke it open in the fifth inning. Cole Freeman reached on an error to lead off the inning and came around to score on a single from Slaughter. Watson's three-run home run pushed LSU's lead to 6-0.
LSU added four more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 12-0 lead.
The Shockers broke up the shutout in the ninth. Young reached on an error to lead off the inning and Katzfey followed with his first career hit. Bohm, Jenista and
Trey Vickers all walked and Croft hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 12-4.
Sam Goodwin's groundout scored the final run of the game for the Shockers.
The Shockers and Tigers wrap up the series on Sun., March 12 at 2 p.m.
