BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU All-American Alex Lange threw eight shutout innings to lead the No. 6 LSU Tigers to a 6-1 win over Wichita State in game one of a three-game series.
Lange allowed just two singles in the game, one by
Alec Bohm in the fifth inning and one by
Trey Vickers in the eighth.
Travis Young and
Josh DeBacker had the Shockers other two hits, both in the ninth.
Starter
Willie Schwanke went five innings and gave up six runs on eight hits with no walks and one strikeout.
LSU jumped on the Shockers in the bottom of the first. Kramer Robertson led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on a sacrifice from Cole Freeman. Antoine Duplantis followed with a double down the right field line to score Robertson for a 1-0 LSU lead.
With one out in the third, Freeman doubled and scored on a single from Duplantis. Greg Deichmann's single scored Duplantis to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Deichmann's three-run home run increased LSU's lead to 6-0 in the fifth.
The Shockers broke up the shutout in the ninth. Young doubled with two outs and scored on a single by DeBacker for the final 6-1 score.
The Shockers and Tigers play game two of the series on Sat., March 11 at 1 p.m. and wrap up the series on Sun., March 12 at 2 p.m.
