TULSA, Okla. – Despite the Red Raiders committing four errors, the Wichita State softball team fell to Texas Tech by a score of 4-3 Friday afternoon in the first game of the Tulsa Invitational.
Jenni Brooks got her first start of the season, throwing four innings and allowing three earned runs and four total runs.
Katie Malone then entered the game and threw the final two innings and allowed just one hit.
Texas Tech scored first in the second inning after a leadoff walk came around to score on a single to make the score, 1-0.
Wichita State tied the game in the third, after a walk and two errors by the shortstop was able to score one run.
In the fourth inning, another walk was able to come around and score to take the lead back, 2-1.
An error and a walk to start the fifth, allowed Texas Tech to score two runs in the inning and extend the lead to 4-1.
The Shockers did not go away quietly. With one out in the sixth,
Macklin Hitz singled with one out. After
Kennedy Long pinch ran for Hitz, Mckenzie Adams singled. A single by
Cassidy Kelsheimer scored Long from second and extended the inning. The Shockers then loaded the bases but were unable to capitalize, ending the top of the sixth with the Shockers down 4-3.
In the seventh, Hitz reached with two outs on an error by the third baseman. After a wild pitch, Adams laced a ball down the right field line, but a diving catch ended the game, giving Texas Tech a 4-3 victory.
The Shockers are now 11-8 on the season and will be in action again tomorrow at 9 a.m., against California.
