WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State men's tennis team defeated Creighton 6-1 today at Genesis Health Club.

The Shockers took the doubles point with wins by Miroslav Herzan/Marius Frosa (6-1) and Jocelyn Devilliers/Murkel Dellien (6-2). Eddie Stoica and Vitor Mendes finished their match after WSU had already clinched the point, losing a back-and-forth match to Creighton's Mac Mease and Alex Koca by a count of 7-5.

Devilliers, Andrea Caligiana and Stoica won their singles contests to give WSU the victory. Herzan and Frosa also won, while freshman Murkel Dellien was pushed to three sets with Brooks Kendall, with Kendall ultimately winning 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6).

"I'm proud of the way the guys focused today," said head coach Danny Bryan. "Knowing that Haru (Inoue) wasn't going to play, we had to have guys step up. Andrea had a really good showing, he bounced back after last week where he didn't play his best, so it was nice to see him get a win and get some confidence...It was a good day overall. We're looking forward to having a good week of practice and getting ready for Oklahoma."

The Shockers improve to 2-3 on the season, and will travel to Norman, Okla. on Feb. 10 to face No. 13 Oklahoma at 6 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The team will then drive 122 miles north to Tulsa on Feb. 11 to face Oral Roberts at 6 p.m at the Philcrest Hills Tennis Club.
