Shockers Sweep Utah Valley With 6-5 Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Luke Ritter's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the Shockers a 6-5 win over Utah Valley and a sweep of the three-game series.

Greyson Jenista went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a home run, while Alec Bohm went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double and Ritter went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a home run.

Starter Connor Lungwitz went 1.2 innings and gave up three runs on four hits with no walks and one strikeout. Reliever Adam Keller threw two shutout innings for the win, while Ben Hecht pitched a scoreless ninth for the save.

The Wolverines struck first with two runs in the top of the first. Trevor Howell was hit by a pitch and Trevor Peterson followed with a single through the left side. After a popup, Jackson Overlund doubled to left-center to drive in Howell and Callahan Moltzan grounded out to first to score Peterson for an early 2-0 lead.

UVU added to the lead in the second. Jake Atkinson led off with a single and moved to second on a ground out.  Howell's two-out single drove in Atkinson to give the Wolverines a 3-0 lead.

Luke Ritter's solo home run in the second inning cut the lead to 3-1 and Jenista's home run in the third pulled WSU within 3-2.

A two-out RBI single from Jake Berry in the fourth  and a RBI double by Zac Willis in the fifth gave UVU a 5-2 lead.

The Shockers tied it in the bottom of the fifth. Josh DeBacker led off with a double and he scored on a single by Jenista. A double by Dayton Dugas put runners at second and third and Bohm delivered with a two-run single to tie the score at five.

Bohm led off the seventh with a double and scored on Ritter's single to left field to put the Shockers up 6-5.

The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Feb. 24 when they host Grand Canyon at 3 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
