11169 Shocker Radio Postgame: Marshall | Haynes-Jones

WICHITA, Kan. –
No. 7/8 Wichita State shot 58 percent from the field and smothered Henderson State defensively to secure a 90-53 exhibition win, Saturday evening at Charles Koch Arena.

The Shockers led 17-3 after just four minutes and were never threatened. Up 58-27 at the break, they held the visiting Reddies without a field goal for the first 13 minutes of the second half to grown the lead to as many as 45 points.

Shaquille Morris led five Shockers in double-figures with 16 points in only 17 minutes. Darral Willis Jr. added 14 points and seven boards. Samajae Haynes-Jones made his first start in the Black and Yellow and tallied 11 points, four assists and three rebounds. Conner Frankamp scored all 10 of his points in the first half, and Rashard Kelly tacked on 10 of his own.

WSU finished the game shooting 58 percent, while holding HSU to a paltry 29 percent. The Reddies made just 3-of-17 attempts from long range and were outrebounded 47-26.

Josh Jones and Chris Parker each scored 12 points to lead the visitors.

Twelve-different Shockers grabbed rebounds, and WSU won the battle of the boards 47-26.

WSU has now won 23-straight preseason exhibitions dating back to 2001 and is 12-0 under Gregg Marshall. The Shockers are 38-2 in home friendlies since 1993.

First Half:
WSU converted on its first nine field goal attempts to jump out to a lightning quick 20-5 lead. Frankamp (6) and Morris (5) combined to score 11 of those points. HSU, on the other hand, missed seven of its first eight field goal attempts.

When the Shockers finally missed their first attempt, Rashard Kelly was right there to grab the rebound and put it in to give WSU a 22-5 lead. Willis scored nine quick points to help lead the onslaught. At the 10:00 mark the Shockers held a commanding 33-7 lead.

Frankamp joined Willis in the double-figure club with just under eight minutes remaining in the half. The lead at that point ballooned to 39-9. At the 7:30 mark, Wichita State was shooting 71 percent (17-of-24), while Henderson State had made only 4-of-22 from the field.

At the final media timeout of the half, Wichita State led 45-19.

The Shockers went two minutes without a field goal near the end of the half, but still took a halftime lead of 58-27 into the locker room. WSU finished the half 24-of-37 (65 percent) and outrebounded the Reddies, 25-12. HSU converted on only 31 percent of its field goal attempts.

Josh Jones led HSU and all first half scorers with 12 points.

Second Half:
In the first four minutes of the second half Wichita State scored just five points after putting up 17 in the first four of the first half. Back-to-back Morris slams snapped the slump to give WSU a 67-33 lead.

HSU missed its first 15 field goal attempts of the half and didn't convert one until the 6:26 mark. The Shockers were in cruise control for much of the second half.
