WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team defeated IUPUI 3-0 on Saturday afternoon inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-9.
Abbie Lehman,
Tabitha Brown and
Mikaela Raudsepp each had double-digit kills with 15, 13, and 11, respectively.
Emily Hiebert added 36 assists and
Dani Mostrom had 15 digs.
Two early kills by
Tabitha Brown helped the Shockers to an early 6-1 advantage in the first set. Later, after three-straight points from Wichita State including two kills by
Emily Hiebert, IUPUI was forced to take a timeout. Brown's ace put the Shocker advantage at 18-10 and the Shockers went on to win the set, 25-14. Brown led the way with five kills in the set while hitting .500.
A block by
Katy Dudzinski and
Jody Larson put Wichita State ahead 5-4 in the second set. An
Abbie Lehman kill gave the Shockers a 9-6 advantage before IUPUI scored three-straight points to tie the set at nine. Hiebert's kill ended the visitor's run and later, three straight kills by Wichita State saw it go ahead 14-11 and force IUPUI to take a timeout. IUPUI wouldn't go away however cutting the lead to 19-18 to force the Shockers to take a timeout of their own. Back-to-back kills by Lehman and Brown put Wichita State back up three, 22-19, and they went on to win the set, 25-20.
The Shockers opened the third set on a 10-1. The run included two service aces by Brown. Wichita State was in control the rest of the set and won, 25-9.
Wichita State is next in-action later Saturday against Marquette. The match is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
