SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Wichita State used a balanced attack to defeat Texas Tech 3-0 at the Roadrunners Roundup. The Shockers won by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20.
Tabitha Brown,
Jody Larson and
Abbie Lehman each had 12 kills for the Shockers, while
Emily Hiebert had 39 assists and 10 digs. Larson also added 14 digs, while
Giorgia Civita had 19 digs.
The first set went back and forth until the Red Raiders took a 10-7 lead on a kill. The Shockers came back to tie it at 13 on a kill from
Abbie Lehman and then used a 3-0 run to go in front 19-17. Texas Tech tied it at 19, but the Shockers scored six of the final eight points to win the set 25-21.
The Red Raiders took an early 5-2 lead in the second set after back-to-back blocks. The Shockers came back to tie it at 11 on a kill from Lehman and took a 15-12 lead on a kill by
Jody Larson. A 3-0 run by Tech pulled the Red Raiders within 18-17, but a kill by
Tabitha Brown put the Shockers up 22-19. WSU won the set 25-22 on a kill by Larson.
The Shockers took a 7-4 lead in the third set after a block by Larson and Hiebert. The Red Raiders pulled within 9-8 after two-straight Shocker hitting errors, but WSU responded with a 3-0 run to go in front 12-8. Tech pulled to 20-18 with a kill, but WSU went on to win the set 25-20 on a kill from Brown.
The Shockers are next in action this afternoon at 3 p.m. against Texas State.
