AMES, Iowa - Wichita State opened the 2016 season with a 3-0 loss at Iowa State. The Cyclones won by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-20.
 
Abbie Lehman and Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with nine kills each. Emily Hiebert had 21 assists, five kills and seven digs, while Dani Mostrom had eight digs.
 
The Cyclones raced out to a quick 6-1 lead in the first set and increased it to 16-7 after back-to-back kills. Kills from Abbie Lehman and Mikaela Raudsepp pulled the Shockers within 20-13, but ISU went on to win the set 25-16.
 
The second set started like the first as ISU grabbed a 5-1 lead. Kills from Raudsepp and Hiebert cut the lead to 7-5 and WSU used a 5-0 run to take a 13-12 lead. The two teams traded points until the Cyclones went on a 3-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Kills from Tabitha Brown and Lehman pulled the Shockers within 22-20, but the Cyclones finished the set on a 3-1 run to win 25-21.
 
The third set went back and forth until two-straight kills gave the Cyclones an 11-7 lead. Kills from Lehman and Jody Larson cut the lead to 12-11 and a 4-0 run by the Shockers put WSU up 15-14. Another Larson kill gave the Shockers a 17-16 lead, but the Cyclones scored nine of the last 12 points to win 25-20.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Aug. 27 against No. 18 Creighton at 4:30 p.m.
