Sycamores Take Series With 8-6 Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Indiana State scored two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Wichita State 8-6 in the second game of the doubleheader.
 
Zach Reding went 2-for-2 with a grand slam and four RBI. Trey Vickers was 3-for-4 and Gunnar Troutwine went 2-for-4 including a home run.
 
In the top of the third, Andy DeJesus singled to center field and advanced to second on a throwing error to start the inning. Hunter Owen's base hit to center brought in DeJesus to put Indiana State up 1-0.
 
ISU scored four more runs in the fifth. Owen hit a ground-rule double and advanced Andy Young, who was hit by a pitch, to third. Kaden Moore singled to right to bring in Young and Clay Dungan hit a triple down the right field line, driving in two more runs. Tony Rosseli drove in another run with a single through the left side for a 5-0 lead.
 
The Shockers answered in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run by Troutwine. Vickers and Dayton Dugas singled up the middle and Josh DeBacker walked to load the bases. Reding hit a grand slam to center field to tie the game 5-5.
 
Tyler Friis' single in the seventh drove in Moore, who reached on a walk, and gave the Sycamores a 6-5 lead.
 
Reding reached on a base hit in the bottom of the seventh and Tanner Kirk came in as a pinch runner. Kirk advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored when Mucha hit a looper to center field and tied the game 6-6.
 
Indiana State retook the lead in the eighth inning off a double by Owen that drove in Young, who had reached on a fielding error. Owen scored on Dane Giesler's double for the final 8-6 score.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., May 10 when they host Creighton at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
