Shockers Take Down No. 25 Creighton

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State came back from an early deficit to defeat No. 25 Creighton 7-3 on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.
 
To start the game, the Shockers called upon freshman Codi Heuer. After giving up two runs in three innings he was replaced by Zach Lewis. Lewis then pitched 3.1 innings shutout innings, while striking out two batters, and earning the victory. Chase Williams then came in for Lewis in the seventh inning, with one out and two runners on and got a strikeout and groundout to preserve the lead. After Tyler Jones pitched, John Hayes came in for the ninth and closed out the victory.
 
At the plate the Shockers were led by Travis Young and Mikel Mucha. Young went 3-for-4, with two RBI and a run scored and Mucha went 2-for-4, with a RBI and a run scored.
 
Creighton got on the board first, with a solo shot from the left fielder Brett Murray in the top of the second inning.
 
The Bluejays tacked on another run in the third inning, but this time by manufacturing a run. Daniel Woodrow led off the inning with a double and then eventually scored on a groundout by Reagan Fowler.
 
The Shockers tied the game in the bottom half of the third, via the single. The Shockers had four-straight singles, to plate Josh DeBacker and Young. Luke Ritter and Mucha received the RBIs. After three complete the game was tied, 2 – 2.
 
In the bottom of the fourth the Shockers took the 3 – 2 lead on a single from Trey Vickers, a walk from Dayton Dugas and then a single up the middle by Travis Young.
 
The bottom of the order came through once again in the sixth, with DeBacker getting a single, stealing second, and then Young lining a single into left to score DeBacker. The Shockers lead 4 – 2 after six.
 
Mucha started off the seventh by walking on four straight pitches. Alec Bohm then singled and with runners on first and second, Greyson Jenista bunted to the third basemen, who committed a throwing error, scoring one and putting runners on second and third. Then with the bases loaded Dugas came through with a two RBI single. This moved the lead to 7 -2 after seven complete.
 
The Bluejays tacked on another run in the eighth for the final 7-3 score.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., May 13 at Illinois State at 6 p.m.
