Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State defeated Indiana State 11-9 in game one of Saturday's doubleheader.
Alec Bohm led all Shockers offensively, going 3-for-5 with one home run and four RBI.
Greyson Jenista went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Indiana State's Andy DeJesus started the game with a triple to right center field and scored on Andy's Young's single through center for an early 1-0 lead.
Mikel Mucha and Jenista singled up the middle to put runners on first and second, and Bohm hit a right field single to drive in Mucha.
Gunnar Troutwine's hit through the left side allowed Jenista to score and put the Shockers up 2-1 in the first inning.
Bohm led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run, his second of the series, extending WSU's lead 3-1.
Josh DeBacker doubled to right center to start the fourth inning and Ritter followed with a walk. Back to back doubles from Jenista and Bohm drove in three runs, giving the Shockers a 6-1 lead.
WSU started the fifth inning with another home run, this time by
Zach Reding.
Dayton Dugas followed with a single to third, advanced to second on a groundout and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Trey Vicker's sacrifice bunt brought Dugas in to score for an 8-1 lead.
The Sycamores added four runs in the sixth, starting with Clay Dungan who singled up the middle and scored on Tyler Friis's hit to right. Tony Rosselli was hit by a pitch and came home on Andrew Gutierrez' sacrifice fly. A two-run home run from DeJesus closed the gap 8-5.
In the seventh, Debacker reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a balk. Batting next, Vickers reached second and DeBacker scored on a throwing error. Mucha was hit by a pitch and Jenista singled up the middle, driving in two runs to put the Shockers up 11-5.
ISU loaded the bases to start the eighth inning and a single by DeJesus drove in two runs. A passed ball allowed another run to score and brought the Sycamores within three, 11-8.
In the top of the ninth, Gutierrez doubled to left center and brought in Rosselli, who reached on a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch, for the final score of 11-9.
