WICHITA, Kan. The Shockers used a late eighth-inning rally to win 7-6 in an in-state showdown against the Kansas Jayhawks.
Dayton Dugas would go 3-for-4 with a home run, RBI, and three runs for the Shockers.
Kansas would put the first run on the board in the top of the first with a double by Devin Foyle that would score Joe Moroney to give the Jayhawks an early 1-0 lead.
Travis Young would get the Shocker bats started in the bottom of the first with a lead-off single.
Mikel Mucha would then rope a double in to right centerfield to put runners on second and third with no outs.
Greyson Jenista would then poke a sacrifice fly in to left field to score Young from third to tie the game at one a piece. With Mucha on third,
Alec Bohm would crack a single up the middle to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Shockers.
Chase Rader would come up to the plate and hit a single up the middle to score Bohm from third to make the score 3-1 after the first.
Wichita State would come alive with two outs in the bottom of the fourth with a single by both
Dayton Dugas and
Trey Vickers. Young would then drive Dugas home from second with a double off of the left field wall to give the Shockers a 4-1 lead.
The Jayhawks would answer back with four runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 5-4.
The Shockers would answer right back with a Dugas towering home run to dead centerfield to tie the game at five in the bottom of the sixth.
Foyle and Wright would single to get the top of the eighth inning going for the Jayhawks. Afenir would drive in Foyle to give KU a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, Dugas would spark the offense with a double into right centerfield. Vickers would drive in Dugas to tie the game at six. Young would walk to bring in pinch hitter,
Zach Reding, Reding would slap a single to score Vickers to give the Shockers a 7-6 lead.
The Shockers host Dallas Baptist on Thursday, May 19
th, in game one of the final regular season series at Eck Stadium with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
